The challenge
Following the enormous success of Harry Hill's Whopping Great Joke Book, Faber and Faber were looking for a way to make the experience even more fun. We worked in partnership with Faber to create a joke-filled app for children young and old.
The approach
Our first step was to bring Harry himself on board. We were on hand with a microphone as Harry told all 986 jokes from the book in his own inimitable style. Armed with the jokes, we created a custom joke machine to tell those jokes to your friends and family. We added an array of sound effects to boot, in case you don't have a trombone or a drumkit easily to hand.
Visually, we styled the app as Harry's own notebook, and hand painted hundreds of his original sketches in orange, yellow and pink to add a splash of colour. We added a joke slideshow, and the ability to tell Harry a joke yourself, and packaged the whole thing up as Harry Hill's Joke Book - now available on an App Store near you.
